Hands-On History Center Peek Into the Past A Lesson in Needs & Wants Pioneer Program A 19th Century CommunityGrades Four, Five and Six
Both whole and small group activities are used to discover the types of people, natural environments and buildings that helped to make up a pioneer community.
Students will take on a role of a 19th century job (does anyone know what a cooper or a wheelwright does?).
Using these new-found careers, they will discover what it really means to be part of a community, determine if this Ohio land and resources are suitable for their work needs, and if they would want to stop at this Heritage Village to settle in or to move on to another town.

A 19th century community is available to students in Grades Four, Five and Six, Monday through Friday by appointment only.
