Hands-On History Center

Pre-Kindergarten-Kindergarten

The Hands-On History Center is located on the lower level of the Hayner House. The Center provides an opportunity for the youngest museum visitors to safely interact with artifacts and reproduction pieces that are entirely hands-on.

The purpose of the Hands-On History Center is to provide an exploratory environment for children to learn about how people lived and worked in the 1800s.

The Center features 5 learning stations:

Log Cabin Kitchen, Dramatic Play, Farm Tools, School Room and 19th Century Chores and Textiles.

By combining the child’s imagination with our hands-on items, young children experience small town life during the 1800s. 19th-century classroom Children’s exploration of the Hands-On History Center is self-directed and at their own pace.

The Hands-On History Center is available to children age three (3) to seven (7), Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday by appointment only.


Time: 60 minutes
Cost: $3.00 per child.
Chaperones required: 1 per 5 children (at no charge)
Additional Chaperones: $7.00
Capacity: 10-43 children, per session
