The activities listed as well as suggested activities, range from basic knowledge and learning, to more challenging, higher critical thinking skills.

19th Century Family Life

Did you know that children in the 1800’s had to start doing chores and had responsibilities from the age of three? In fact, every member of the family had work to do every day. This one hour will help the student to better appreciate what they have now. “Mystery objects” in this program will also encourage discussion.

What Will I Wear Today?-1850

Using demonstrations and hands-on reproduction pieces, students will participate in the process of how clothing is made, starting with sheep and plant fibers. “Where does cloth come from?”, “How does it get its color?” and “Who wears what, and why?” These are some of the questions which will be addressed. Students will even have an opportunity to try on some reproduction clothing.

Giant U.S. Map Puzzle

This map shows the United States as it was in 1863. 31 individual, labeled states can be used to show the original colonies, westward expansion, or the secession of the southern states during the Civil War. The states are separate and can easily be repositioned for each lesson. A trained interpreter in period clothing will accompany the map to aid in this fun learning activity.
