Event: Frontier Rendezvous
Date: April 21 & 22
Gallery: Gallery
Description:
Frontier

“Frontier men and women were a remarkable breed of people. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be Ohio, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River, victims of Indians who claimed the vast virgin territory and strove to turn back the growing tide of whites.” (Book blurb from Allan Eckert’s book The Frontiersman)

Heritage Village Museum seeks to interpret all phases of Ohio’s 19th Century history, starting with the pioneers and early statehood. This weekend’s event will demonstrate life as the pioneer lived it – seeking independence and freedom, rich land and new life. Although we do not have Native American representatives here this weekend, they were a very important factor in the early human history of our region.

This is a new event to Heritage Village and we hope to repeat it next year, possibly later in the year. Enjoy your visit, linger for the day, come back again. Demonstrations in fire building, cooking, writing, spinning and more!
